Department of Zoology

The department promotes the discovery and broad knowledge about the biology of animals, evolution and their environments. Established in 2014, the Department of Zoology continues to inspire generations, fostering scientific curiosity, and contributing to the collective responsibility for growth and prosperity. Initial teaching efforts in the department were tailored to train students leading them to an Honours with B.Sc. degree and subsequently, Masters's and Ph.D. programmes were rolled out. The present faculty members of the department are expanding research with specialization in Cell and Molecular Biology, Entomology, Radiation Biology and Environmental Toxicology representing a wide spectrum of disciplines in Animal Sciences coinciding with the attraction of eminent faculties to work in the Department. Well-equipped research laboratories with various instruments like RT- PCR, ultracentrifuge, Fluorescence Microscope, FTIR, PCR, Hematology analyzer, Biochemical Analyzer, Tissue processor, Gel-Doc, Laminar air Flow etc. Department has qualified and dedicated faculty specialized in various disciplines of animal science. Departmental thrust areas for research in which, various faculty members are involved includes Neurobiology, Molecular Radiation Biology, Oncology, Reproductive Physiology, Evolutionary Biology,Toxicology, EIA, Avian Biodiversity Research, Nano based antifertility drug research, Parasitology, Nematology, Molecular Genetics, Microbiology and Population Dynamics etc. Students are also engaged with different projects in form of dissertation at post graduate level and student project at under graduate level. Emphasis is given on imparting knowledge and practical skills to enable the students to become a part of innovative, competent and global world,along with providing right guidance for higher studies.
